Backtrack a bit

January 8th, 2010

So Many of you are viewing my blog… oddly. I have never liked blogs however they are a good tool for reaching out to an audience, and you my friend are my audience.

So I’m going to back track a little for you and tell you my story of how I got here and where I came from.

Lets start as far back as 7 years ago, I had just graduated from highschool and like many others had no clue what I wanted to do other than be rich ( its not working out just yet ). I Knew two things very well in my life. Cars and computers, were my passions. I don’t even buy a car unless I can in some way monitor or even modify it using a computer.

I first taught my self to program back when I used a program called mIRC at age 14. I learned how to use its scripting language and The scripting language was Very much like C++. From this day on I knew I loved to program. It didn’t matter if it was a stupid program by the request of my dad to read in the past two years of lotto numbers. find the ones most used and least then list them in order or if it was just “Hello World.”

I knew I loved cars once I finally got to work on a 454 Big block Chevy with my dad. It was just his work truck but the mechanics of rebuilding the engine were amazing to me. I later went on to build a 417 HP 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. The dreams of this car were never truly realized however because the turbo sucked in a vacuum tube after I pulled a bone head move and did not tighten down the filter that was located directly on the turbo.

Well by now your asking “What the hell does this have to do with the site?” It currently doesn’t in an abstract context. However when some one asks me what I love to do I say work on cars and code, in which coding will eventually pay for the Twin turbo 4.6 Mustang I want to build.

OK well 5 years ago now I decided where I lived I could either say, ” I’m ok with making enough just to be broke” or ” I’m getting the hell out of here.”

I chose the later. I joined the Navy, I made Second Class in my first 4 years but decided to get out Honorably as GSE2(SW) Harris. The civilian world isn’t much different from the military except for the fact that you cannot quit your job and they control every aspect of how you live your day ( my command required you to write a “chit” if you wanted to do things like buy a car or get married ). Speaking of getting married. I did to Stephanie c Harris, we eventually had a child that is now 3 days away from being 11 months old named Logan. We are both Highly addicted to World of Warcraft and run our own very small guild of elitists on server Sisters of Elune called <Gun Metal Grace> which was an old guild name we used to be part of on Anvilmar but because of guild splits and such disbanded and was no more.

Hmm Looking back in Just this I ramble a lot. Oh well hopefull i havn’t lost all of you just yet. I Recenty got out of the Navy on Sep, 27, 2009 and started school at Coleman College, San diego. I immediately met Jack, who was wearing a calvin pissing on Craigslist shirt which I found hilarious. aside from that I had no idea what the real meaning behind it was… Yet.  A few weeks go by in Java class and Jack ask’s me if I can help him with a few issues of the site and I already knew PHP from playing with Multiple websites I created over the years, none of which worth a shit. I helped him get the Adult warning page to work for those who cannot support cookies… and looking back now I could have changed 1 keyword and it would work exactly the same and be totally serverside…. mebbe I should implement that instead of the way its currently done.  ANY WAY. He continued to ask questions and I was able to answer them.

Long story short jack offered me a position with a growing website that with a little help will eventually make it big. I honestly believed that it would just looking at the site and the amount of dedication he had put into it knowing as little about html/php/java that he did. He has the determination to make this thing work and I have the determination to build a site thats time flexible meaning that over time upgrades will be easier to implement and much more user friendly to the user than the average.

In the past 3 months I went from knowing C++ to knowing the basics of Java, PHP, JavaScript, and AJAX. Easiest of all those languages however i still believe is PHP.

Well I suppose i’ll eventually see some of you in the world of Azeroth. Later folks!

Good Morning…

January 8th, 2010

So This is what has came from the depths of my creation lately.

ToDo -

Non Account holder editing – Get the Edit ad page working for NON account holders. basically every one that does not have an account gets a key that allows them to see their post in editable format This has not been implemented on the development site yet.

Post Ad page – Soon to be completed. however not currently up and running. formatting is terrible still and is no where near what a finished product should look like.

Calendar Events – Not started yet due to myself being unsure how i want the Database to be changed if at all.

Calendar – Not started due to the same issue.

Category menu’s – Will be collapsible like the states and cities of the development site and you will be able to keep them collapsed via cookies so that each time you load the site if you dont care to see one, you don’t have to.

Custom themes - This will be one of the last things to happen with the site but it will happen. I want users to feel some type of control over what they see on a website and the only way to do that is to allow them to change things as they see fit. while can not allow you to change the categories i can allow you to change how you see them

Currently IE – Fixed the Scrolling adult warning page on the development site. It now scrolls but its not the smooth animation you would see if you used ANY browser except for IE.
Also in IE fixed many of the odd things that would cause parts of the pages to look incorrectly. unsure of why IE was forcing odd colors but I’m not a web Guru when it comes to Cross browser CSS support.

Currently FF – origionally the site was designed for FF but because the majority of our viewers use IE I have had to cator more to their needs due to the fact that only 20% of you are using FF ( Shame on the rest ).

General updates – I realized a few days ago that I had no way for Account  creators to verify that they were 18 or older  ( a requirement to create an account on our site ) I also did not have them verifying that they agree to our Terms of Agreement. Which I mean from a coders point of view… of course you agree other wise why would you do something…

Aside from this I Am also moving to use Sessions in PHP instead of cookies due to the fact that cookies are too long term and by general use just a text file saved on your hard drive. This keeps some one from learning what user name you use on our site just by viewing your cookies.

With an Account comes responsibility. And with responsibility you should have options right? well Here the options are pretty basic. you will be able to reset your hit count on your ads if you wish. This is for those who want to see how many people are viewing your ads per day.

You will also be able to edit / delete ads from the User control panels as you would be able to otherwise.

I will later be adding smaller control panels on your actual ads for account holders if they are logged in and viewing their ads to be able to do similar things for convenience.

I’m trying to bring all and any options a user would want to your fingertips and make it as visually appealing as possible.

Speaking of visually appealing. From a coding point of view I do not think as others do when it comes to what I would call Easy to read. I see the site in code and end users such as your self see it in a format after the code has ran its course which is of course what I would call “visually appealing” because its There, and it works. This however is NOT the case for you, the audience. SO with out further blabbing. Please give me feed back on the currently in development not even Alpha version of the new site.

If you create account I have not enabled the e-mail verification e-mails to be sent out However if you tell me you have created an account I can enable the account. This will only be usefull for those who already posted on the site as it creates a list of posts from your e-mail. I have done this for those have already started using the site so that you will now be able to track your old ads Much easier instead of using our currently in place e-mail system ( i know it sucks but I am also currently fixing the live version of e-mails sent out to include the post Title in the title of your emails for further clarification and easy while using the older code )

Merry Christmas

December 26th, 2009

This is from Bryan (not). But he wanted to take a few minutes today and wish you all a Merry Christmas (hahaha, no he did not). Sorry Bryan, so had to mess with you. Hope you all (Bryan, your family) and our findiit friends had an excellent Christmas! We have high hopes and expectations in the coming year for many new things to come our way! Best wishes everyone!

new thoughts rolling around in my head

December 20th, 2009

So i was thinking about how ajax works and how it essentially breaks the back button.

What I mean is if i enabled the website of mine full ajax if you clicked the back button it would take you out of the site… however i have been thinking of converting my new version of the site into using iFrames. easy implementation and essentially does exactly what i want it to. It’s just thoughts to ponder and the fact that iFrames are supported by ALL browsers back to firefox and IE 1 are a plus. i can use ajax where required still like loggin and from where i do not wish a page refresh to happen such as posting ads or editing ads. instead whats going to happen is upon successfull update/post it will change the page and then show you your ad

Seriously… you are a tool

December 3rd, 2009

You are full of shit, everything you write is completely wrong and misleading to everyone as you write what you want people to believe…Don’t think people don’t know this, in your mind, you think you fool ppl….The script crashed your server because you had 300,000 live ads?..Please, will you!!! Who are you kidding?? You only have about 4000 ads in total and that is counting the duplicated ones, and don’t say you only have 4000 ads because you lost all ads when the server crashed….Yeah, and Xzero script sucks so much that you are only modifying the script to your needs..That’s very easy isn’t?? Why don’t you open a new file and type in and create your own script instead of stealing the base code from another one?..Looser!!!
MESSAGE FROM maxelll3752@******.com, 37 year old poser…

Well this was left as a reply to the last post from the creator of the site and I must say sir that you are quite rude. You assume that I am stealing code and plagiarizing another persons work? Not only would that cause SERIOUS legal issues later down the line that I nor the owner care to play with it just flat IS NOT RIGHT. First of all I’m currently rewriting the script YES in a SIMILAR fashion so that users will recognize the interface, what i am not doing however is editing current code. EVERY THING that has been written so far has been BY ME FOR FINDIIT. Does the current version of the site contain accounts? no, does it use javascript for dynamically controlling features of the site? NO it does not. This has been a Learning experience for me and you are blatenly accusing me of doing something I cannot stand, that being STEALING CODE. If it is not open source and not under the GNU licence of any kind then it’s owner must give some type of consent to using code. while alot of code may be alike because of the database my code is no where near the same.

Assume all you want sir but you will in the end still be lashing out at nothing but air. You are wasting your time and ours by trying to slander every thing we have done thus far.

Oh btw… we have over 300k live ads now, you would have ran into this problem also if you had logged into the admin panel clicked the live ads link and realized Hmmm 4 outer left joins and 2 other joins is a stupid for a single mysql query.

What were you Really trying to prove anyway? hoping that we would just keep this in the shadows so you could further gloat about how you “Won an argument?” You successfully got a rise out of me by wrongly accusing things you don’t know.

Know what? most dont know about it but here go look My version of the site is at Development Findiit.org

accounts

December 2nd, 2009

accounts are semi functional. I have the script setup to where if you currently have posts already under a certain e-mail ( this is where its wise to enter your email ) that all of them will be listed when you create and view your account information. I do however need some feed back on how you guys want this done.

currently the page just lists every thing but I don’t know if i like it this way. no one will however be able to change their e-mail but you will be able to change your username or password at any time. if you do however need an e-mail changed I will respond to e-mails about that topic and do it for you but don’t expect me to change your e-mail every time you forget a password… its just two people currently and the way the site is growing I don’t want it to be common practice to change your email. it allows too many spammers into the site.

in the upcoming months/year we will be sending account verification to your cell phones or calling you with a account verification password and thats how it will be done. But untill then… e-mails are going to work fine as its easy to watch the accounts as they are created and see if some one is mass creating accounts. (good luck to bots as we are using reCaptcha for this also )

Happy T-Day folks!

November 23rd, 2009

I just fiished making the new site’s look and feel much cleaner and fully navigable still have to add functionality for the reply boxes on the ads which shouldn’t be that big a deal. i’m starting to believe that i may be able to get the new site up and running by the end of January with little to no bugs. ( ya right ) but when it does happen folks please do not hesitate to e-mail me at develop@findiit.org ! thanks!
